In Summary

Friday's semi-finals list will have flyweights Isman Mohammed from Nairobi City County (NCC), Paul Kamau of Thailand Boxing Club, Jericho Lumumba's Dennis Makau, and Isaac Ngula of Kibra Olympic Boxing Club.

The Nairobi Intermediaries amateur boxing Championships began on Thursday at Pal Pal Social Hall in Pumwani, ending the day with the quarter finals, while the semis and finals will be conducted on Friday at the same venue.

Speaking exclusively to Radio Generation on Thursday evening, Nairobi branch Assistant Secretary Ronald Khainga expressed confidence for a job well done as the federation's branch seeks to qualify boxers for the National Intermediate (Kenya Open) to be hosted in Thika town, February 26-28, 2026.

"I believe we have done a marvelous job as we seek Nairobi's top boxers for the national event. The clubs have also done a lot in preparing these athletes, something that is commendable, taking into consideration the tough economic situation currently in the country," said Khainga.

Friday's semi-finals list will have flyweights Isman Mohammed from Nairobi City County (NCC), Paul Kamau of Thailand Boxing Club, Jericho Lumumba's Dennis Makau, and Isaac Ngula of Kibra Olympic Boxing Club.

The Bantam Weight category tops prodigy Stephen Kariuki from Kibra Youth, Griffins Obuya, who started out at Kayole Wings some five months ago, Kibra Olympic's Shadrack Hussein, and Prince Bahai of Kayole Rapids.

The biggest surprise of the day was Emmanuel Okoth's advancing past the quarters of the Feather Weight Category, to book his Friday semifinal ticket for Kibra Youth. The speedster had a slow start to the campaign, but picked up rapidly, winning on points to make a huge statement of his intentions for the Thika national event.

Others in that category are Thailand's Ezra Nelly, NCC's Eutychus Ongao, and Derrick Muthoka from Kahawa.

Another prodigy from Kibra Olympic to qualify, but this time round for the Light Weight Category is sensational Kadelah Steve, who will join Udheifa Wahome from NCC, Jericho Lumumba's Hansen Muse, and Dennis Black from Kahawa.

Kayole Wings Boxing Club will also be having Ali Mohammed making it to the Light Welter Weight category, as well as Eugene Omondi from Kibra Youth, Kevin Juma from Kasarani Youth, and Evans Ouma from Kibra Olympic.

The Friday's semifinal list completes with the Welter Weight category that has Githurai 44's Collins Omondi, Dennis Ndwati from Kibra Youth, Ian Mburu from Jericho Lumumb,a and finally Wilberforce Akunza of Kasarani Youth.

As the curtains fall down for the preliminaries and the quarter finals on Thursday at Pal Pal, Friday will yet be another occasion that might end or birth the dreams of different Nairobi boxers, in their quest to seek Kenya's top amateur boxer, in a calendar year that runs up to December 2026.
